Amendments to the Law on Foreigners, adopted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia on April 25, 2019, aims to digitalize the administration and improve its work efficiency. Most notable changes are:
- Introduction of the possibility of applying for approval, ie the extension of temporary residence by electronic means, as well as the novelty of the consolidated request for temporary residence and work permit, which can be submitted electronically from abroad on a prescribed form.
- Extension of the definition of immediate family, where now immediate family members are considered to be: spouses, extra-marital partners, their children born in or out of wedlock, adopted children or stepchildren until 18 years of age who have not married, as well as parents or adoptive parents of children who have not turned 18 years old, and who are not married.
- Introduction of issuance of diplomatic, official, consular and service, special identity cards:
- Diplomatic – Issued to a diplomatic agent and members of his family.
- Official – Issued to a member of the administrative and technical staff of the diplomatic, consular or other mission and to members of his family.
- Consular – Issued to a consular officer.
- Service – Issued to a foreigner who enjoys a certain amount of privileges in accordance with international agreements.
